Jill Biden Shares How She And President Joe Biden Find Family Time



Keeping the love alive! Dr. Jill Biden shared how she and Joe Biden make for each other in their busy schedules.

The First Lady got candid with Kelly Clarkson for a Kelly Clarkson Show special and shared that the pair always make time for a nightly dinner together in the White House.

“We have dinner together, no phones, the phones have to be off and now we’re having dinner in this beautiful home and there’s a fireplace in the dining room and they light the fire and we just sit and talk for a while, and he has to go back to work into the night and I’m grading papers,” she explained.

The First also has a weekly Sunday night dinner with their children. “It’s been a little busy lately. We still do it and the kids look forward to it and I think traditions really ground kids.”

The President and First Lady share daughter, Ashley, 39, while the President is also a father to Hunter, 51, and Beau who passed away in 2015 and Naomi who lost her life in a car accident in 1972 with her mother Neilia Hunter .

“It was funny, recently, my granddaughters called me and they said, ‘Nana,’ — you know I love to have a beautiful table with candles and flowers or whatever I can two put on it — They said, ‘Nana, we’re making our own dinner and we’re doing it Nana style. We have our candles,'” she spilled. “So some of it has permeated [through the family]. I hope that they continue the traditions too.”

also shared how she struggled with Beau’s death after a cancer battle. 

“I prayed so hard every single day that he was going to live,” she said of the 45-year-old. “I felt like he was such a special person that god would let him live. I just prayed and prayed.”

“It just wasn’t meant to be,” she said. “It was hard for me to keep my faith because I had believed so strongly in prayer that he would make it. It took me a long time, Kelly.” 

The First Lady found her faith again when a woman approached her in church and said she wanted to be her prayer partner and they have kept in contact with each other every week. “I felt like that was a gift she gave me,” Jill said.

The First Lady “unwinds” with exercise as it “clears her head.”

“All woman should have something, it doesn’t have to be exercise, although hopefully, it would be just to take a moment for yourself,” she said.

“I get up early and that’s my time I have for myself.”

Clarkson also met the couples dogs Major and Champ and recalled their Valentine’s Day in the White House when staff painted hearts to place in the lawn of the White House.
