Meghan Markle’s Illustrated Children’s Book ‘The Bench’ Hits No.1 On The New York Times Bestseller List


Mother, wife, actress, Duchess and now a bestselling children’s author! Meghan Markle‘s children’s  The  has officially reached No. 1 on The New   for children’s picture books for the first time since its launch on June 8.

On Wednesday June 16, the Duchess Of Sussex took to her and Prince Harry‘s Archewell Foundation website to write a long thank you note to fans for supporting the project that clearly means so much to her.

“While this poem began as a love letter to my husband and son, I’m encouraged to see that its universal themes of love, representation and inclusivity are resonating with communities everywhere,” the 39-year-old mother of two explained. “In many ways, pursuing a more compassionate and equitable world begins with these core values.”

What is extremely important to her about this book is its depiction of a healthier version of masculinity for a new generation of children. “Equally, to depict another side of masculinity – one grounded in connection, emotion, and softness – is to model a world that so many would like to see for their sons and daughters alike” she explained.

The adorable picture book, which was illustrated by Christian Robinson, was largely inspired by “a Father’s Day poem she wrote for her husband in 2019” following the birth of their son Archie Harrison.

Her 36-year-old husband and their adorable 2-year-old son are heavily featured in the book and even their newest edition, their little girl Lilibet Diana, whom they welcomed on June 4. The sweet illustration depicts her two boys spending time together on a bench while feeding their beloved rescue chickens while the former Suits actress is seen working in the garden with her new baby girl in a sling around her body. There is also a sweet picture of their dog Pula.

In her bio within the book, the royal is described as “a mother, wife, feminist, and activist” who “currently resides in her home state of California with her family, two dogs, and a growing flock of rescue chickens.”

This is not Meg’s first time dipping her toe into the world of books. Back in 2018, she wrote the forward to Together: Our Community Cookbook which reached the top of the nonfiction charts on Amazon and The Bookseller.
